Wokingham Clinical Commissioning Group is supporting Self Care Week 2016, which runs from 14-20 November. Self Care is about being knowledgeable and understanding your own health and taking measures to stay well. This year’s theme is “Understanding Self Care for Life’ and the intention is to raise awareness of how you can take control of your health and ultimately take control of your life.
Self Care means knowing how to keep fit and healthy, how to deal with medicines appropriately, manage self treatable conditions and when to seek appropriate clinical help.
Self Care helps raise awareness with people about how they can safely treat minor ailments such as colds, fever, as well as how they can also live healthily and prevent avoidable but more serious problems with long term conditions such as Type 2 diabetes or heart disease. If you have a long term condition, Self Care is about understanding that condition and how to live with it.
For advice on managing your medicines, speak to your Pharmacist for advice to help you Self Care.
The message from Self Care week includes reminding people to ensure their medicine cabinet is well stocked and how they can get help and advice on symptoms from their Pharmacist. Information and advice from your Pharmacist is also available on stopping smoking, managing your weight and choosing healthy options to protect their physical health and mental wellbeing.
Helping people to help themselves is a two-way partnership between individuals and the NHS to provide and care to allow people to stay well and use health services appropriately.
